Mountain Home Design Trends

Dec 07, 2022

Mountain homes tend to give off cozy, inviting, and relaxing vibes. Ranging anywhere from the trending mountain modern style to classic cabins, mountain homes can be anything you want. Despite their varying styles, mountain homes commonly incorporate natural design elements that complement the surrounding environment. Here are five trends we've been loving lately to help you on your mountain home design journey.

Natural Materials

When it comes to mountain homes, natural materials create the most cohesive spaces. Utilizing natural, local materials is even better. In Montana, incorporating wood siding and flooring or rugged stone accents helps your house feel right at home amongst natural terrain.

Rustic Accents

While many mountain home designs lean toward a more modern overall feel, adding a few rustic accents helps create a more cozy, intimate feel. Warm lighting, large stone fireplaces, and wood accent walls add character and keep with the overall natural theme of the home.

Seamless Indoor to Outdoor Transitions

One of the best things about owning a mountain home is being part of the outdoors. Oversized windows and glass doors are the perfect way to help bring the outdoors in and create a space that feels natural amongst the landscape. Additionally, more windows can help allude to a larger area and give your home a more modern feel.

Neutral Colors

A neutral color palette is critical when trying to complement natural materials. Whites, rich greys, browns, and taupes are all excellent choices that create contrast and intrigue throughout the home. While you can still use bright, bolder color choices in more playful areas of the house, a more neutral palette will help tie your indoor and outdoor spaces together.

Low-Maintenance Landscaping

Believe it or not, landscaping can make or break your home's aesthetic. There's something to be said about your home's curb appeal, even in the mountains. For mountain homes, low-maintenance landscaping that blends in with the natural surroundings can help create a more copesetic look than more elaborate designs. Depending on your surroundings, elements like large rocks, bushes, and native grasses help keep with the tone of your surroundings. Plus, the less maintenance you have to put into your landscaping, the more time you have to enjoy those beautiful mountain views!
