FINISHED! Green Chain Update

Dec 17, 2018

Marks Lumber’s big capital improvement project for 2018 is a new 80’ x 120’ metal building which covers the green chain at the sawmill. This has been a needed addition and on the to-do list for many years, but there was always a higher priority project that trumped it.

After the winter of 2017-18 and shoveling many hundred cubic yards of snow, the decision was made. In April we signed a contract for construction to be completed in August. Not so! With the rolling U.S. economy, our building was fourteen weeks behind schedule and wasn’t completed until November, just after Thanksgiving.

With the new building, weather should not play a part in lost production or quality problems caused by the weather, including sticker tracks on lumber from UV rays and black marks on boards from wet mill chains. And then there is the big benefit for our hard- working employees - being protected from the weather year around.
