Marks Lumber has had a fantastic 2017, and we are looking forward to providing high-quality specialty timber products in 2018. Prices for logs have been high, and it appears that they will very likely continue to climb. As a result, timber product prices will likely be going up as well.

Montana is a little bit different animal than the Cascade Region - even for independent mills like Marks Lumber who own almost no timber. But certainly, the wood fiber market in Montana appears that it will follow the trends in the Cascade region, even with somewhat less action here.
There has been more volatility in timber product prices in the last year than we had in the previous years, and the trend has been strongly higher prices. Marks Lumber anticipates that prices on many wood products, but especially Douglas Fir products, will continue going up in the near term. On high quality Douglas Fir timbers from the Pacific Northwest, we have had two significant price increases since October 2017, and we hadn't had one for over two years prior.
